Global Education Monitoring Report

Launch Event and Seminar: The Global Education Monitoring Report 2021/2 – Non-State Actors In Education: Who Chooses? Who Loses?

Watch

The Global Education Monitoring Report reviews progress towards SDG 4 and explores emerging issues relevant for the education discourse. The theme for the 2021/2 report is the role of non-state actors in education. Non-state actors provide schooling but are also engaged at all levels of education and influence spheres. The report invites policy makers to examine the relationship with non-state actors in terms of fundamental choices: between equity and freedom of choice, between encouraging initiative and setting standards; between groups of varying means and needs; between SDG4-commitments that needs to be met immediately and those to be met progressively; and between education and other social sectors.

In this hybrid event we will get a presentation of the monitoring part, including the impact of Covid 19, as well as a discussion about the role of non-state actor in education.

Manos Antoninis, Director of the Global Education Monitoring Report, will present the 2021/2 report. The presentation will be followed by interventions and discussions addressing the most important findings and recommendations in the report and how they are relevant for Norwegian actors working in aid to education.

Objective of the launch event and seminar:

- Improve our understanding of the role of non-state actors and questions we might want to ask ourselves when dealing with the issue

- Learn more about the monitoring of SDG 4 and the on-going benchmark process

- Facilitate exchange and partnerships to improve investments in global education

-  Learn from Norwegian experiences
