More people than ever are on the move. Some are fleeing from wars and conflict, some are seeking new opportunities. Refugees and displaced populations experience big barriers in being granted their right to education. Educated people are more likely to migrate while some people migrate in order to get a better education. The 2019 Global Education Monitoring Report explores the effects of migration and displacement on education opportunities, and vise versa. The report helps to inform the debate as two new global compacts on migration and refugees are being finalized and the global community is harnessing support for Sustainable Development Goal 4 promising quality education to everyone.

Manos Antoninis, Director of the Global Education Monitoring Report, will present the 2019 report. The presentation will be followed by interventions and discussions addressing the most important findings and recommendations in the report and how to take them forward.

Objective of the launch event and seminar:

• Improve our understanding of the interlinkages between migration, displacement and education
• Explore how to improve efforts to provide quality education for refugees and displaced people, but also understand better how education provides opportunities
• Facilitate exchange and partnerships to improve investments in global education
• Learn from Norwegian experiences of including migrants and refugees in the Norwegian education system
• Explore the situation in the Norwegian education system

The launch is organized by Norad, the Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO, the Norwegian Refugee Council, Save the Children and Union of Education Norway.
